Resurfacing pressure treated wood decks can cost about $20-$25 per square foot when done by a licensed deck builder in Hunterdon County, NJ.
Pressure treated wood decks are a classic and popular option for homeowners for a number of reasons. They’re economical, customizable and when properly maintained, can last a really long time. That being said, what does it cost a New Jersey homeowner to have a pressure treated deck resurfaced by a licensed deck building contractor in 2025?
For about $20-$25 per square foot, most homeowners in New Jersey can expect a fairly straightforward scope of work for a pressure treated deck resurfacing project. These scopes include demolition, disposal and construction components.
Depending on existing deck dimensions, demolition is usually a quick process. Old deck boards and railings get pulled and disposed of in order for the deck pro to fully assess the substructure framing condition.
The best pressure treated deck resurfacing candidates are decks less than 20 years old that show little to no signs of weather damage or rot. There can be some exceptions to the actual age of the deck, but a general rule of thumb is that if the substructure framing is not wet, not rotted, has no signs of algae/mold growth and no significant splitting or cracking, then you may have a great resurfacing candidate on your hands (or should I say, in your yard).
If the deck building contractor deems the existing structure viable for resurfacing, the process continues with any necessary substructure framing additions (such as mid-span blocking or blocking added for new deck posts). Subsequent steps include installing pressure treated decking and railings and a staircase. Factors to consider like deck height from ground level and planning for more than one staircase will likely increase project costs. Additional features like fascia, skirtboards and lattice work will also likely reflect a higher final price tag.
All in all, having an existing deck resurfaced with pressure treated decking is a budget friendly way to restore vitality to your outdoor space!
